How The Physical Workspace Impacts The Employee Experience

How The Physical Workspace Impacts The Employee Experience

Why should organizations invest in creating physical spaces that employees want to show up to? Well, the answer seems like it should be simple common sense. For starters employee’s well-being is strongly correlated to employee productivity and performance and even a small shift in well-being can have a dramatic impact. Perhaps one of the largest factors of well-being is the physical workspace. Employees who enjoy and like the environments they are a part of will be more engaged, productive, happy, and healthy. There are numerous reports, indices, and studies such as Gensler’s Workplace Index, The Leesman Index, Steelcase, and others that explore the relationship between the physical space and business performance metrics, productivity, and what employees value. So what should organizations be doing and thinking about?

The Motivational Benefits of Art in the Workplace

The Motivational Benefits of Art in the Workplace

“The Motivational Benefits of Art in the Workplace” published by Forbes written by Victor Lipman author of “The Type B Manager: Leading Successfully in a Type A World “. His article just begins to touch the surface of how much artwork actually impacts a work environment. Lipman writes about how he was inspired to write his article after reading a similar one via twitter entitled “Having Fine Art in the Workplace is Good for Productivity” by Marissa Brassfield (Article title may have been revised since it’s publication).

His article in Forbes is a great read for anyone who would like to learn more about the relationship between art and corporate environments. Lipman is a management trainer and author who retired from the corporate world in 2012 after 24 years of Fortune 500 company management. He has extensive knowledge first hand in the field of management, both good and bad, effective and ineffective, what works and what doesn’t, he also has a background in psychology with works appearing in the Harvard Business Review (PT).

Not only does Lipman’s knowledge deal with subjects like employee hiring, retention, HR issues etc. but also how the environment the employee is constantly surrounded in has an effect on things as major as reducing stress, increasing efficiency, and boosting creativity.

He is quoted saying “Which to me is where Return on Environment starts becoming tangible. Employees want to feel good about where they work. They want their physical location to be a source of pride. Pride motivates. And that’s good business.”

Here at Corporate Artworks, we share the same vision as Victor in regard to the importance of how you, your employees and clients view your corporate environment as an essential part of your business. You’ve worked hard to build your company, its image, brand, and culture.
